Texas Department of Agriculture’s Role in TGPC

With respect to groundwater protection, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) plays a role in both groundwater quality and quantity issues. TDA is the lead authority for pesticide regulation in Texas. In addition, the department works to enhance water quantity and quality through licensing prescribed burn managers.
The TDA recognizes certain pesticides as potential groundwater contaminants and has primary responsibility in preventing unreasonable risk to human health and environment from the use of pesticides. In regulating pesticides, the TDA registers pesticide products, enforces pesticide label compliance, trains and licenses prospective users of certain pesticides and assesses the potential impact of agricultural chemicals.
